Below are my goals for 2020, over the course of this year I’d like to track and share my experiences with each one. Many of these goals are rather basic (lose weight, practice your instruments), but maybe I can provide some insight to myself, and to readers, with how I accomplish them and my thoughts on how they affect me. I will touch on a few of these goals underneath this list that I have begun already. Cheers and thanks for reading my first blog post!

| Blog <- (This is why I am here) |
2019 has been a relatively poor year for me. In 2018 I was fully engaged in running, eating healthy, goal tracking, etc. Sometime in February 2019 I fell out of the habit. My last goal check-in is during February, and since then I’ve regressed into poorer habits. Too much TV and video games, irregular exercise, I progressed into a late sleeper. In 2018, I was able to loose a good deal of weight, become a quick runner, and built muscle. These improvements increased my self worth and all around bettered my life. I attribute these positive changes to self-discipline, which I built by meticulously tracking my progress. I ensured I had no (or few) zero days by calendaring everything. It was a journal of tasks and timelines, which I almost always met. In 2020 I’d like to build upon my goal-tracking beyond just exercise and diet and into more areas of my life.
I am starting my New Year’s resolutions a week or so early. I want the framework to be in place to get going January 1st. I think I will touch on some of the goals listed that I am implementing today.
Firstly, the Measurable goals at the top of the chart are primarily to hit my first goal, to hit 150 lbs again. My lightest weight as an adult was around 147 lbs, and I am currently at 165. I was browsing through my pictures today -Taking more photos is another item on this list, I found them to be quite handy to reflect on my past self – and saw one from when I was just at this weight, and this 18 lbs is noticeable. My clothes still fit , but my pockets flare out more now and my smallest shirts are nearing skin tight. I know exactly how I will lose the weight. I will catalogue my caloric intake and exercise every single day. It worked for me before and I lost weight at an aggressive pace. I’ll touch on the other three non-fitness goals in the Measurable section at a later date.
The General goals section is either not stringent, not suited to day-by-day tracking, or not a goal I’d like to start with. Once I get into the rhythm of goal-setting, I will start adding these in. A couple I’d like to touch on that I’ve started on as of today:
- Go vegetarian – Except for one meal (chicken my grandmother cooked, how could I refuse?) I’ve gone pescatarian the past week. I’ve noticed feeling better and its a sliver better for the environment.
- Play less videogames and watch less TV/Netflix – I think if I look at self-improvement as a part time job, 15-20hr per week or so, this will naturally cut down on both. As much as I may love certain games, films, shows, etc. I don’t have much to show for it in terms of bettering myself.
- Journal – Yeah I am writing this blog, but its still not the same as journaling. I think I’ll use the blog for progress and thoughts and interesting stuff I encounter, the journal may lean towards the sappy stuff or anything I am not comfortable publishing. I’ve always found it as a good way to organize my thoughts and why I am feeling what I am feeling. There is some sort of self-discovery in journal that I think I will benefit from over time. I’ve never been able to routinely journal in the past – I always forget about it – but I’ve added it to my daily progress tracker along with my fitness goals to help me get in the habit.
- Quit the news – I’ve always prided myself on being informed. I’ve grown to covet everything political and topical. I was on a blog called Raptitude recently and read a post by David about his experience quitting the news – I quite like what David has to say on his blog and encourage others to read it – and I’ve done some thinking and I agree with his points. News and Politics are empty knowledge about topics beyond my control. My hours spent invested in the news each week could go to something much more beneficial. Maybe instead of reading about say the homeless crisis, etc. I could actually be doing something to help. Other than that, the news is constantly depressing. I’ve removed myself from all Political forums, and removed myself from newspaper alerts on my phone. I will still subscribe to an Outlet, because I think supporting journalism is important, especially in today’s political climate. But I will try to avert constant news-seeking for a while.
Lastly, the Adventurous goals. These are things that I think will be best scheduled when on a high note. Today was a highly productive day for me and I felt like starting off on blogging as well. I’ve enjoyed writing this post, and if you’ve enjoyed reading, we’ll see each other down the road, cheers~!
